Coots, Daukes' Hide,
Cley, 28th February 2019. Half a dozen have returned to
the reserve in recent days. Like Pochard and Tufted Duck, they
too are absent from Cley Marsh in the
winter these days.
Pochards and Tufted Ducks, Snipe's Marsh,
Cley, 27th February 2019. Neither species is here in the
winter these days, so these are spring migrants – as was the
Chiffchaff in our garden today.
Long-eared Owl, Deeping St James,
Lincolnshire, 25th February 2019. A well known roost for
this scarce species, but the view is distant and obscured.
Long-billed Dowitcher, Frampton Marsh,
Lincolnshire, 25th February 2019. I saw this bird minutes
after it was found on 24th August. Today it was in a different
plumage, but just as distant!
Green-winged Teal, with Common Teals,
Frampton Marsh, Lincolnshire, 25th February 2019. Having
twitched one at Druridge Bay yesterday, I found what may be the
first for Frampton today!
Spotted Redshank, Frampton Marsh,
Lincolnshire, 25th February 2019. One of four present,
apparently catching (and nearly choking on) sticklebacks.
Green-winged Teal, Druridge Bay,
Northumberland, 24th February 2019.
Red Squirrel, Loch Garten, Invernessshire,
23rd February 2019.
Tengmalm's Owl, Bixter, Shetland, 21st February
2019.
Pied-billed Grebe, Loch of Spiggie,

Glaucous Gulls, Cley, 16th February
2019. There were TWO juvenile Glaucous Gulls on the North Scrape
for an hour or so early afternoon today. The new, slightly
darker individual then flew off west on its own.
Little Bunting, Weybourne Camp, 16th February
2019.
Lesser Whitethroat, Salthouse, 14th February
2019. This Lesser Whitethroat has been wintering in
Salthouse, but it has been just as elusive as the Blakeney
Turtle Dove: since it was first seen on Boxing Day, it has been
seen on just 4 dates (including today).
Tawny Owl, North Elmham, Norfolk, 13th February
2019. Tawny Owls may be 'common & widespread', but they
are rarely as easy to see as the popular bird that has been
roosting behind the chapel ruins at North Elmham for some weeks
now. It's near the top of the tallest old tree at TF988216.
Tundra Bean Goose, Blakeney, 9th February
2019. Several different Tundra Bean Geese have been
showing amongst the 3,000-odd Pink-footed Geese feeding in the
harvested beet field at Blakeney this week. The flock has been
quite settled too as people have been careful not to disturb
them.
Curlew, Cley, 9th February 2019.
Short-eared Owl, Burnham Norton, Norfolk, 6th February
2019.
Glaucous Gull, Cley, 6th February
2019. That's 29 days he's been here now. The seal on the
other hand has been dead for over two months, and smells like it
too!
Tundra Bean Goose, with Pink-footed Geese,
Blakeney, 5th February 2019.
Otters, the Serpentine, Cley, 5th February
2019. The female with her two cubs.

2019. That's 27 days he's been here now.

afternoon.

Common Snipe, Cley, 31st January 2019.
Muntjac, Cley, 31st January 2019.
Turtle Dove, Blakeney, 29th January 2019.
This Turtle Dove has been in gardens in Blakeney since November,
but it is incredibly elusive. I've spent many hours looking for
it over the last 3 months and finally saw it on Tuesday.
Fortunately for those that haven't, it is 'just' a European
Turtle Dove rather than something rarer.
Glaucous Gull, Cley, 28th January 2019.

2019.
Corn Buntings, Ten Mile Bank, Norfolk, 18th January

After 9 days, he's still here – thanks to those several yummy
long-dead seals just above the tideline.
Cattle Egret, Welney, Norfolk, 15th January
2019.
Tundra Bean Geese, with Pink-footed and

Barnacle Geese, Cley, 13th January 2019.
This flock of 52 arrived this morning.
Hybrid Lesser Black-backed Gull x Herring
Gull, Blakeney, 12th January 2019. This rather smart
adult gull (of this presumed parentage) has been noted at and
around Blakeney duck pond since at least January 2016.
Tree Sparrow, Cley, 12th January 2019.
Apparently the only one in the Cley 10km square.
Common Scoters, Cley, 11th January 2019.
Great Black-backed Gull, Cley, 11th January
2019.
Glaucous Gull, Cley, 11th January 2019.
Rather gruesome, but dead seal pups are a key food resource if
you're an Arctic gull.
Glaucous Gull, Cley, 9th January 2019.
Apparently a second bird, an hour after the
first, also heading west, but more slowly.
Kittiwake, Cley, 9th January 2019.
Grey Seal pup, Cley, 9th January 2019.
This little chap came to say 'hello' while I was standing in the
surf photographing the second Glaucous Gull.
Glaucous Gull, Cley, 9th January 2019.
This bird flew straight through, west, at about 10.00am.
Grey Heron, Cley, 8th January 2019.
Pale-bellied Brent Goose, with Dark-bellied
Brent Geese, Cley, 6th January 2019.
Long-tailed Tits, Walsey Hills, Cley, 5th January
2019.
White Stork, Welney, Norfolk, 4th January
2019. It may be of tainted origin but it's got lovely
clean plumage (which is unusual for the species). It wasn't
close, but it was closer than the Ring-necked Duck which
stubbornly stayed 1,300 yards from the hide.
Black-bellied Dipper, Briggate Mill, North
Walsham, Norfolk, 2nd January 2019.
